When the state murders...

This kid, a 15 year old boy named Alexander, was brutally murdered last night by the Greek police. He was shot straight to the heart for actually daring to talk back to a cop. Athens is already burning and so is the rest of the country. No cover up will do. The murderers and their colleagues will pay.

  1. So sad that your first post after your sabbatical should be about this tragedy... :(

  2. Officers names Epaminondas Korkoneas, 37, who allegedly fired the shots that killed Grigoropoulos, and Vassilis Saraliotis, 31.

They better bring these 2 guys to justice or it will get even worse... If it can get worse, looks pretty bad over there now.
Are you close to this Area, Gnome?

  3. It often seems that the best way to get away with crimes is to join the police. I hope that this case proves to be an exception.

  4. Not a tragedy really dear Nebacha, more than a crime that was waiting to happen, and to be honest I'm not back to blogging proper. Just had to show the face of the kid, and put the riots in context.

Not allegedly dear Deitrix. The video has reached the internet and even the mainstream media. There were no riots, no provocation, no nothing. The pig just fucking shot the kid because he and his friends, who were celebrating a namesday, mocked the cops. Then everything exploded. We were in a bar 3 minutes from the corner of the murder. The people were furious though unorganized and the cops (riot police) openly laughing at Alexis' death. Things will -they have to- get tougher actually. Oh, and as I live in downtown Athens, I'm pretty close to everything.

Indeed dear Pacian, indeed. They only killed an immigrant from Pakistan 4 days ago and now this... Good thing is everyone is bloody outraged. There will be more marches tomorrow. Oh, and the murderer's attorney quit saying his client was lying even to him.

  5. Unfortunately, most news accounts focus on the riots, and the details of the shooting is lost, which makes the rioters look like extremists. The NY Times account seems to take the 'official' perspective:

"According to the police, two police officers had been patrolling Exarchia when their car was stopped by some 30 young men, many of them hurling stones, around 9 p.m. on Saturday."

    They give no other perspective.

  6. Yeah Guttertalk, thats what I read too. What a bunch of BS!

Cold Blooded Killers. They should just dump the 2 guys back on the street in there underpants! Let the people take care of them...

    Keep safe, Gnome!

  7. Funny thing is dear guttertalk that this 'official' story isn't 'official' anymore. Not even the police will dare retell it, as videos and hundreds of eye witnesses make it impossible. Mind you, it's not just some riots. There tens of thousands of people (in every city) marching, attacking police buildings and burning banks. And they have the full popular support. Even the president of store owners who was asked to talk about their burned shops said this was no time to speak about property...

I will Deitrix :) Oh, and I'm sure these guys (and their little worm friends) will pay. Especially if they end up in jail, or dare to walk anywhere unprotected. Then again lynched in their underware does sound appropriate.

  8. There seems to be a lot of stories around about police abusing their powers lately, and it sometimes leads to tragedy's like this

My heart goes out to his family and friends, and I hope that the police responsible are brought to justice.

    Stay safe out there Gnome.

  9. Oh, I wouldn't worry about safety Tom... When the people own the streets everyone is safe. Right now we have thousands upon thousands of schoolkids spontaneously protesting throughout Greece. Justice has to be served and I believe that this time it will be.

  10. Shit.

I try to keep any kind of current events out of my gaming blog, but sometimes life is just too much. :(

  11. My thoughts exactly my friend, my thoughts exactly.

  12. My thoughts are with the boy's family in the wake of this tragedy.

It's actually a relief that some places in this world, the people know when to rise up against oppression by their government.

Be safe, Gnomie, and may justice be done.

  13. You are right dear Red Bull, people fighting back are indeed a relief. And a hope. And -frankly- I don't think there's an unharmed police station throughout the country.

  14. This is why I was so upset when the campus police at my college won the right to bear arms.

The AFP reports seems to be focusing on the riots themselves rather than the cause.

    Oh man...

The cop shot three times! What the hell!!?!?!?! For a stone being thrown? How does getting your car beat up require lethal force?

Didn't the cops expect that in that neighborhood? How the hell does shooting people make things better?

  15. Campus police with guns? Oh dear... At least here it's illegal even for the riot police to enter Unis and scholls no matter what.

Oh, and the only ones saying the car was beaten are the cops themselves. The two murderers to be exact. At least this happened in Exarhia and the truth got out.

BTW, dear Caleb, did you know these bastards even attacked Alexis' funeral?

  16. "BTW, dear Caleb, did you know these bastards even attacked Alexis' funeral?"

What the fuck?! Why in the world would they do that? Shit...

  17. Oh man. That's horrible.

  18. Tonight is tough. The fascists seem to have come to aid the police... Possibly carrying knives... Fucking war. And here's another pic of the police AFTER the murder:

  19. Holy fuck! I feel so shallow for only commenting on this atrocity right now. If I'm honest, I've been so caught up in my own shit that I've been oblivious to world events.

I guess this is an eye opening event that brings it home to us all that 'the man' (i.e. the government of your particular nation) is not serving you, it's there to keep you in bondage.

It's time we all woke up and see them as the enemy.... Revolution is not something from the last millenium, it is something relevant to today. Don't even get me started on the puppet that is Obama...

  20. Father! Haven't seen you in a while my friend. Everything's fine over there I hope. Oh, and as always we're once again agreeing politically. Absolutely comradely.
