Retroaction 4 - The End?

It's neither easy nor cheap putting an emag together, but apparently Nreive did it again, and we can all now, in our perpetual state of blissful ignorance, download the excellent fourth issue of retro gaming mag Retroaction. It comes in zip, pdf and issuu formats, looks stunning, is free as always and covers everything the retro scene has to offer with its interviews, news-bits, features, regular columns, and reviews of both classic games and new productions for retro machines. It even sports a review of Zaku for the Atari Lynx and a huge Super Fighter Team interview by yours truly. Oh, and the definitive look at the commercial PC remake of the classic C64 Armalyte shmup.

On a less happy note though, this will be the last issue of Retroaction. At least for a while that is, as actually producing it has apparently been an uphill struggle. Still, you can expect the spirit of the magazine to live on through the brilliant Retroaction site itself and maybe -just maybe- return in some other (magazine) form when the stars are right.

  1. This is a real shame. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky that we got 4 fantastic issues for the price of diddly-squat.

It will be interesting to see how the site develops in the near future.

  3. @ Marc: Couldn't agree more dear Marc. Then again, I do remain optimistic regarding Nreive's amazing retro abilities.

@ Barts: RIP indeed and do you think it would be possible for Google to have evolved into a semi-sentient superbeing?

  4. Ah I always seem to find out about these things just as they're bowing out=( I really enjoyed this issue - particularly the look back at Strider which brings back fond memories - so i'm sorry to see it go. I hope it will be reincarnated in some form or another.

  5. Thanks for the kind words, but it certainly wouldn't have been half the success withouht your input. Personally, it had been a struggle with mixed emotions while producing this issue. On the one hand, from early on, I had a gut feeling that the magazine wouldn't carry on, and yet, felt issue 4 had some of the best content yet. It certainly is the last for a long time, at least until life gets back to some sort of normality, when we may again consider re-launching - and I emphasise "may consider". In the meantime enjoy this last issue.

  6. You're most welcome and thanks a ton too dear Nreive. Thing is I'd really love to see Retroaction make a return and have some ideas that will help it be, well, more stable I guess. I will definitely let you know as soon as some other projects are ready. For now, let us wait and simply enjoy the excellent Retroaction site.
