Hope: a mini-adventure mini-review

According to Ben 304, Hope, the brand new AGS adventure, was the result of his 48 hours collaboration with "Colin Loafshorts", and is a point-and-clicker you will probably finish in less than thirty minutes. It also happens to be a beautiful sci-fi drama, that was heavily inspired by the Matrix and casts the player as a young man who awakens in a strange world, unsure of how he got there and what to do, only to try and discover his humanity. A young man who will have to confront Stalkers and the particularly sinister-sounding DeepNet.

Hope, beyond the excellent (and very atmospheric) graphics and music, sports a simple and intuitive interface, well-written dialogs, some interesting characters and a few easy, but enjoyable, puzzles. It is thus an adventure you have to download and play. That's why you'll click here. To grab it. Oh, yes, and it's absolutely free too.

  1. I saw this on the AGS forums but haven't had time to look at it yet. Still at half an hour, I might just be able to find time - especially with Ben's brilliant graphics to look at!

  2. I will give it a try, but I am getting slightly weary of these very short games, each telling a mini-story. The premise in each seems interesting, but once I start discovering world, it ends (Featherweight!). Maybe the gentlemen behind these titles would be kind enough to give us a complete story for a change?

Yes, I have a headache today. It shows.

  3. @ CaptainD: Think you'll manage to get those 30 minutes required Captain. And you will enjoy them.

@ Barts: Had a headache myself Barts... No, really. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Mr 304 is already working on a way longer game.

  4. Ugh. I love the atmosphere and music, but I can't even get past the door code puzzle...

As a sidenote, it's slightly annoying that I'm unable to publish comments when using Google Chrome. A bit unfortunate.

  5. Oh, I passed it simply by clicking both buttons a few times -thus sheer luck. As for that Chrome thing dear Ithmeer, that's quite disturbing. I'll try and look into it.

  7. I'm sure a few random clicks should help. Didn't really discover the logic behind it myself, but immediately got past it...

  8. Thank you for the lovely little write up!

As for the door code puzzle - it is not the puzzle that should be your immediate focus at this point in the game. Solving a few more puzzles will reveal the actual code to you, without any guessing required.
