Out, Droidscape: Basilica is OUT!

Can hardly believe it you know, but after 16 or so months of ridculously hard work Droidscape: Basilica has finally launched for iOS and has even started getting glowing reviews all over the place. That's quite the feeling let me tell you... Anyway. Let's not drag this out much more. You know what this is about dear reader, don't you? If you care for a lovely and quite innovative, stop-motion animated puzzle platformer with smart head-tracking controls and a glorious soundtrack, do give the thing a try.

Oh, and spreading the word would be really nice too!

Teasing, head-twisting and doing the Droidscape!

Woohoo! Another Droidscape: Basilica trailer has been unveiled and it's the aptly named Droidscape: Basilica Teaser Trailer, meant to tease you and just you, oh iOS-gaming reader and to let us also unveil our brand new game-page. Woohoo, indeed!

What's more, and besides the new screenshots and general info on the game, we also unveiled Kyttaro Games' experimental head-tracking tech, which had been under wraps for quite some time now. It's called HeadTwister and it's using the iPhone's (or iPad's) front-facing camera in order to track head-movement and translate it into in-game actions.

Oh, and do keep in mind that the graphics shown in the above trailer are not the final ones. Far from it... Here's a shiny new screenshot:

Trailerized Stories and Droidscape: Basilica

No, I won't tire you much this time, oh sweet and gentle reader. No, my unbelievably precious bundle of joy. I will not go on and on about Droidscape: Basilica (the iOS game I've been working on since forever and is *finally* nearing launch). No. I will simply invite you to have a look at the trailer posted above, promise to very soon come back with much more and ask for your opinion.

Enjoy! And thank you!

Moleman 2: Demoscene - The Art of the Algorithms

Now that you've spent the last 90 minutes watching the video above and have enjoyed an almost cathartic explosion of algorithmically produced art, you already know you love what the demoscene is doing and I frankly can blame you. Better show your appreciation the IndieGoGo way then.

Splik and Blitz are Baked in Blood

The 18th of June 2011 (that's tomorrow apparently) will hopefully see the release of the truly promising arcade-action-platformer-adventure that its creators, Deadly Pixel Games, have chosen to call Splik and Blitz: Baked in Blood. It’s apparently a lovably indie game that, besides already covering a multitude of genres and sub-genres, can also be characterized as an online, 3D, side-scrolling, co-op brawl-fest. Impressive eh? Well, it definitely sounds so, and I haven't even mentioned the fact it features co-op puzzles. And it really looks and sounds rather nice too.

Like the screenshot posted above? Noticed the cooking weapons? Well, you'll probably love the gameplay trailer that follows this very paragraph then. Oh, and before you click yourself over to the game's official site know this dear reader: over 16 people have toiled hard for Splik and Blitz. Let's just hope it turns out as good as they hoped.

Gaming shows: la crème de la crème

Watching videos online has always (well, relatively speaking) been a pleasant and deeply unproductive way to spend ones time, but, let's face it, not all of them are worthy of our delicate attention and keen eyesight, whereas only a few of them come with the consistency of a show, that will guarantee regular breaks from work. This, dear friends and comrades, is why I can't help but suggest you follow, watch and enjoy these, uhm, following gaming shows. They are the ones I'm currently into, and the ones that will make sure you a) appreciate gaming a bit more, b) smile a bit, c) work less, d) play more.

Matt Chat

When a smart, passionate and academically trained in the ways of gaming person approaches gaming history, this is what you get. An excellent retro-focused show showcasing classic games and interviewing legendary game creators.

Zero Punctuation

Our dear Yahtzee remains brilliant and hilarious as ever. You know him and you know what his deranged ZP reviews are all about. Still thought I'd remind you.

Spoony Experiment

The fact that bad movies and games deserve to be ridiculed (and, as a consequence, remembered) has apparently urged Spoony to, well, ridicule them, while also coming up with videos of a most varied nature. The humour is tops.

Adventure Game Reviews

Not a regular channel of video goodness, but the episodes and features that are there are some of the best the web has ever spawned. Provided you are into adventures and oldish PC games, that is.

DOS Nostalgia

Another top quality MS-DOS, retro gaming video thingy, with great presentation, attention to detail, a taste for quirky game selections and pretty self explanatory title. Also, very entertaining.

Bytejacker

Another pretty popular choice, as Bytejacker is the best known indie game show around; and it's been around for more than 100 episodes, which frankly is impressive. Sports some truly odd and generally funny sketches too.

Classic Game Room

Classic show, new format. Covers both retro and new games and is professionally produced. Uhm, watch it!

Subject E14 - The Final Session

It's not that the internet isn't the paradise of weird mails that will possibly make you rich, get you a PhD or the partner of your dreams, but Mr. Leonard Huntings' emails are my absolute favourite ones. They are always delightfully disturbing. Here's the latest one:

Dear friend...

I write this letter to you under a great deal of pressure. I have been hiding in the shadows, trying to tell to you the truth, but they found about it and now they are coming for me. The last recording that I recovered is now available and nothing was the same after it... Bertrand was the first and then came many others. Including myself...

You have to come to the Hanwell Mental Institute. I know this is happening to you as well...

This is the last you will hear from me...

-Lenny

SubjectE14 -- Session2 -- What monster?

And I quote:
UNDISCLOSED LOCATION - June 11, 2010. The second part of the recovered
tape is made available. It gets much worse from now on. I’m not sure
if I should show you the rest... Is this enough to convince you that
the rumors about Hanwell Mental Institute are real? Look closely and
pay attention: this is what they did to my friend. They did it to me
as well. And you.

I may not be able to continue with this. You should spread the word.

Subject E14 -- Session 1 (?)

Got hold of this today, and I thought I'd break my silence and let you know.

UNDISCLOSED LOCATION - June 4, 2010. The following tape was found at a confidential archive and has been painstakingly restored. It proves beyond doubt that what happened at the Hanwell Mental Institute is true. This is only a very small glimpse of the atrocities committed there. I can show you more...

I beg you to refrain from contacting me as I have put myself in great danger already. Thank you, and spread the word.

Winter's Shadow - the moving pictures

As Ben Chandler had already revealed in his pretty recent interview, he and Steven Poulton (of McCarthy Chronicles fames) have been working on a longer, darker and more ambitious adventure game: Winter's Shadow. Judging by the just released official trailer of Winter's Sun -you know, the one posted above this very paragraph- I must say I'm more than impressed. The thing drips with atmosphere and maturity, and seems to already sport more than a few darkly distinct locations. Graphics, animation, music and voice-over are also on the excellent side of things.

Winter's Shadow should be available for the PC this summer, from newly formed indie studio Infinite Grace Games. I guess you could watch this space for further news, though I can't help but recommend checking the authors' blogs too: The Number of the Ben and The Thought Radar.

DOS Nostalgia gets all nostalgic while playing Castle Wolfenstein

DOS Nostalgia... Can't believe I haven't mentioned this fantastic site for what must have been longer than a month, but, well, better late than ever I suppose. Anyway. As you might have guessed, DOS Nostalgia is a pretty young retro gaming site/blog/thingy focusing on the world of classic pc games of the DOS variety, which as you might have noticed I'm particularly fond of myself. Now, as I'm also fond of classic game video reviews, I must admit that DOS Nostalgia has evolved into one of my favourite places on the net. Its video reviews, you see, are absolutely brilliant.

What's more, Anatoly, the man behind said videos, has already covered an excellent selection of games (including such truly irresistible choices as Loom, Manhunter: New York and all time favourite Alley Cat) which have already proven his taste, talent and refreshing lack of horrible internet humour. Go see for yourselves luvs. Oh, and here's a sample covering an obscure little game you might have heard: Castle Wolfenstein.

If I had a PS3 and a copy of LBP...

that's what I'd be playing through over and over again:

I mean, it's simply stunning, isn't it? Of course it is. It is after all the aptly named ZX Spectrum Adventure created by Liveinabin for all PS3 gamers cunning enough to own a copy of Little Big Planet and old (and, well, European) enough to have fond memories of the Speccy. Now, why don't you see if you can spot all the pretty obvious references yourselves?

Bombarding Alan Sugar with Sinclair microdrives... Ahh, brilliant, just brilliant!

Empire: Total War - A Trailer to cheer the Navy

Seems I'm back from my ultra-short though truly invigorating vacations and here's a lovely trailer about the forthcoming Empire: Total War strategy game to dampen the collective post-summer pain. The game should hit Europe the 6th of February 2009, feature some pretty impressive sea battles, impressive graphics and some intriguing references to the 1st French Revolution. Sounds lovely, doesn't it? Find out more over at TotalWar.com and then, well, why not, have a look at my review of Medieval II: Total War.

Warhammer: the 25 years video retrospective

Amazingly it has already been 25 years since Warhammer started destroying lives, wallets, relationships etc and yet we still love it. Apparently the excellent people of the Miniatures Wargaming Union love it quite a bit more and to the extent of actually producing the above -frankly amazing- videos. Watch and learn kids, watch and learn. Then click here.

God of War: The Era of Machinima

Feel like getting creative with God of War? Machinima based on Sony's gaming hardware? A new voice for Kratos? And why is the salmon in doubt? Watch the video and all (/none) will be clear.

The launch of the Commodore Amiga (video)

Here it is luvs; the 1985 event that officially and rather impressively presented mankind with the Commodore Amiga 16-bit home-computer powerhouse in all its Debbie Harry - Andie Warhol glory. Not much else to say then, is there?

Soldner-X: The Trailer

It was already looking good when I first previewed the thing, but now it's as jaw-dropping a shmup as the gods would ever allow. Oh, and let me just remind you that Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer will soon be available for PC and PS3, that the official web site is still here and that you can preorder your copy right here.

Games Yanks Can't Wank: Jet Set Willy

If only ScrewAttack US were as good/funny as these guys, the world would be a slightly better place. Unfortunately though, they are most definitely not. Sad, innit? Better watch the Games Yank's Can't Wank brilliant retro review of Rockstar ate my Hamster and cheer up then.
