The Spectrum Games Bible 1982-2008

the spectrum games bibleHaving already missed the apparently excellent ZX Spectrum Book - 1982-19xx book, I'm more than excited to have been timely informed about the incredibly ambitious Spectrum Games Bible 1982-2008 project, that's already spanning two books and covering more than 500 games. What's more, at least four more books will soon be released, hopefully reviewing every game ever released for the gloriously humble Speccy. Now, that's what I call ambition. Possibly a worthy cause too. Well, almost. Anyway.

To grab the extremely well priced first books (or their rather pricey colour counterparts) do yourselves a favour and follow this handily underlined link. Mind you, you can even contribute to the forthcoming volumes -this is most obviously a group project, you see- and, yes, actually get paid. Oh, oh, and for some free, online, high-score comparing ZX Spectrum gaming you have to give MySpeccy a try.

  1. So these will have profiles on every game up to current day..?

That would be an awesome part to any gamers collection... Might have to invest!

  2. Yes, dear Deitrix... every game ever it seems, provided of course it's a Spectrum one. The first book only has more than 200 reviews. Quite a feat.

  3. It's a worthy project indeed. We need to preserve and celebrate our gaming heritage for future generations...

  5. I'll wait to all the books are finished and buy them all at once. I so hope someone at KLOV.com will do the same for arcade games. I know there are a few books out there that catalogue arcade games but none are as comprehensive as this undertaking. Oh, and a C64 bible too please!

  6. Haha!

I have that "Masters of Doom" book you have in your ad bar.

A really good behind the scenes read.

  7. I must admit that sounds like a rather cunning plan dear Erik. Wish I could exercise this kind of self-constraint myself... :) Oh, and the KLOV and C64 bibles don't sound like such bad ideas. Now, may I suggest you try http://c64goldenyears.com/?

Hmmm... think I'll grab it as soon as I stop buy urban related books from Amazon. In a few months that. Mind you, oh Caleb, the Encyclopedia of Games Machines is fantastic!

  16. I get them days.. I sit down to work on an art project and everything comes out like shite! Artist's Block.

Thats when I have to get away from all computers, pencils and wacoms period. Then I sit in front of the tube playing my games and slugging a few brews... When most of my gaming comes into play actually.

Sometimes I might even take a wek off from any art. It makes for a good fresh start.

Try digging for worms... I see gnomes around these parts like to do that.. ?

  28. Well I would love to do a review of EVERY Speccy game, we try to cover all the main games, underated games, some rubbish ones and personal favourites. Theres 4000+ games in the World of Spectrum archives, so we dont cover every single game but as many as we can. We welcome any new reviewer to review any of their favourite games.

Book 3 is nearly finished (1987-1988) and is the largest so far, over 420 pages, 350+ games for those two years. Cant wait to finish this and move onto Book 4.
