300: Sparta is YOU!

Not really sure if I mentioned this before, but even if I have, here's something worth repeating: 300 is one of the absolutely worse films ever created and the first feature length movie ever to be filmed in hopelessly un-epic slow motion. Then again, we gentlemen, gnomes and ladies of taste did have quite a laugh (in pure Dungeons & Dragons style), which apparently is far from over. Here's what the sceners of pouet.net (oh, and ...uhm... there are a couple of particularly NSFW pics over there; one of them is quite a bit disgusting too) came up with...

  1. 300 is one of the worst films every made? Let me guess. You think Star Wars is the greatest film every made and you think Klingons are real, right?

  2. Couldn't be more wrong there. I simply know how good films look like and 300 is absolutely nothing like one. Care to come back with a new argument?

  3. Sorry about being off-topic, but have you heard anything about Sony Hellas PR event in Athens considering God of War 2 release? With naked girls and a dead goat? Kotaku and Destructoid are all over it.

  4. Read the Daily Mail story, but it seems as if nobody noticd the whole thing around here. So, guess the answer is no. I'll see if I can find anything else though...

  5. I never planned on seeing the film ' 300"(I'm not what you'd call a movie buff), but it has been receiving alot of praise as of late. Then again, people seemed to more wooed by special effects than a good story and memorable characters. To them I say... something that can't be said here because young audiences may be close by.

  6. Well, it has been receiving praise by mainstream critics, but really this means nothing. Thankfully South Park managed to ridicule the whole thing appropriately... And of course I do agree with your sfx comment and will keep younger readers in mind :)

  7. 300 is pooh? How disappointing!
I was actually thinking of going to the cinema for that one too...

    Ho Hum!

  10. Hi, gnome nice to see you back from your short holiday ;)

    nice pictures ;) heheheh.

Runs off to find that NSFW pic ...

  11. anon: I love action movies and 300 bored me, so... yeah. Completely off the point comment there.

The pacing is terrible and the performances overblown, yet horribly shallow.

And before you tell me that action movies don't need quality acting, go watch Sin City or Tarantino's half of Grindhouse. Neither provide any more acting juice than they need to and they still trounce 300

  12. i fell off my chair... i'm sooo adding a secret '300' mode to reunion

  13. LMAO!!! Excellent post!

I will just have to see the movie for myself I guess... My son and I watch Sci-Fi marathons, so I should be able to make it thru this movie... lol

  14. Hehe, 300 was one mess of overdone 'dramatics', but I liked it nonetheless.

Anyway, you have to love those "This is Spartaaa!" plugs all over the internet. It's certainly become a memorable performance ;)

Been doing my fair share yesterday in Guild Wars. Pulled out a new character called Zeus From Greece and went into those exciting birthday games shouting "For Sparta!" and came out victoriously yelling "This is Sparta!". Must have annoyed the heck out of a few hundred people :p

  15. ...Klingons aren't real? ....feck

  16. Of course they are Mr. Elderly, of course they are. Never trust people with colourful shirts. Only gnomes.

(gives Munkkey the secret code to the NSFW cavern)

Ah, dear corvus, I just couldn't agree more with you. You saved me the trouble of actually arguing on the movie's quality. Thanks! I'll just add that filming the "political" bits in dreaded slo-mo was particularly nasty...

Yes Mike! Do the ultra-secret 300 thing in Reunion! What a damn wise idea...

Oh, and Deitrix if you like Sci-Fi stuff I definitely wouldn't recommend 300. You'll be annoyed silly.

Zeus, huh, Droniac? No matter. You'll have to be tortured and have a Clockwork Orange readjustment thingy now...

  17. I don't expect you all to understand this, but 300 is not one of the worst films ever.

But, as I said, I don't expect you all to understand that.

If you really want to, you should probably go see the movie again...

    Possibly stoned.

  18. Yep! That might do it Gnome...
Lots of aspects of life that were dull before seem better stoned...

  19. ...work never seems any better no matter how stoned i get... Or as they say in the Klingon institute

  20. (lights one up)

Ok. It still is a horrid movie...

    (cough)

Damn, I'm too old for this I guess. Anyway. Did you actually get to watch the movie Father?

Oh, and Mr. Elderly, I never knew you were a scholar of Klingon studies. I'm most impressed...

  21. I find it quite nice, actually. I would say it was more entertaining than, say, Star Wars Episode I, or the last Star Trek movie.
But the "Spartaaaaa" thing is really funny.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Indeed, indeed. And Star Wars episode I was nothing compared to the horror of ep.2 really. Not so sure about the Star Trek movies... the last one I saw (and probably the 2nd or 3rd ever) was about the Borgs and was mildly entertaining...

  23. well you've gotta show an interest multiculturalism requires an investment from all of us...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Very well. I'll re-read Charles Taylor and Brian Barry. Multiculturasim... it's so "post"

  25. Hey Star Wars is good along with Star Trek, and 300. And theres no way to compare those three movies because they arent the same genre.
