  2. what happened here then? some kind of student uprising? The students here have nothing to moan about - they're just rich kids who get up at 4, drink loads of beer and spend mummy and daddy's money. Oh how I long for a 70s style riot.

  3. Something like the biggest student, professor, Uni (along with quite a few more groups) uprising of the last 30 years.

At least 50k people demoed in Athens and more 100k in all of Greece. More than 300 Universities are under student occupation, and there is a professors' strike.

Oh, and the Police (aka dogs, or pigs in some countries) brutaly attacked the demo in Athens.. We'll se what happens.

Guess you'd better check your local indymedia.

  4. Whoa! there's been nothing in the news as far I've seen - is it still going on now?

  5. You will not find anything in the news :)

Only in the greek, german and french indymedia. As for the UK, that's all I could find:

    www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2006/06/342341.html

And yes, the clashes are almost over, but the occupations and strikes are going stronger, and everyone is talking about education. Only a small demo today...

  6. What were they rebelling against?

  7. Against the new education laws, mostly having to do with allowing the founding of private Universities, and attempts to stop providing free education, along with changes within the Unis (for example, reducing the extent of political asylum inside the institution) and more...

  8. there hasnt been free education here for ages. I left uni with about £12k of debt and student loans. And £12k buys a lot of Dreamcast games, DAMMIT!

Maybe my Dreamcast addiction is bcoming a problem...

  9. well, we're trying to save free education here, avoid such huge loans and dreamcast seems like the reason behind the riots. So no, your addiction isn't a problem.

  10. I'm sorry to see civil rights in Greece patrolled by a army of uniformed thugs.

I salute you for telling us about it.

  11. I'm more angry than sorry actually. Yesterday I was furious, but reading the coverage from today's newspapers quite satisfied...

And thanks for the solidarity dear Mr. Elderly. Much appreciated.

    Cheers!
