Zombie Goes Up (Greece Goes Down)

Excuse me if you will dear reader, but I'm not in the greatest blogging mood. After over a million people protested against the latest brutal austerity measures two days ago, yesterday hundreds of thousands were exposed to mindless violence, political bullying, the death of one protester, police brutality, the passing of a disastrous and traitorous law, dozens of injured people and a deep (if hopefully temporary) division among the people fighting for a better future. Not much to celebrate then, despite the heroic mass mobilization of students, public and private workers, shop-owners, doctors, engineers, unemployed and -frankly- almost everyone.

Still, in a vain attempt to make everyone feel a little bit better, let me suggest you have a look at Zombie Goes Up. It's a lovely and innovative browser-based indie game by the developers of the pretty Dino Quake. It's a beautiful pixel art offering, that let's you guide a zombie from its grave to the surface, where it apparently will help with spreading the Halloween aesthetic. It also is a constantly scrolling action puzzler with great variety and well-designed levels, that does play a bit like an inverted (and way more interesting) version of my humble VVVVVV level.

  1. Sad to hear about Greece. I hope the situation can improve soon, though it doesn't seem like it will... Anyway an interesting game, but not really my type. Hope all is well with you.

  2. Thanks my friend! I wish I were more optimistic myself, but these things change. Who knows? Things might look up in ten or so days. History is after all speeding up!

  3. You know what they say, when someone throws eggs on a politician, it's an attack against democracy. If 100.000 people get beaten up, pushed around, thrown chemicals at, it's just Wednesday.

  4. A temporary hijacking of a nation's solidarity, a clot of thugs will not be enough to stem the flow. The World listened, though they didn't quite get the message, but that little "blackmail" ferret must have been trembling in his shoes, and that gives me pleasure

..right well i'm off to get some grub for those zombies, they must be starving....

  5. @ Dualnames: Hehehe, exactly that. It's definitely getting quite a bit tiring mind. And definitely unhealthy.

@ The Elderly: I do hope you are correct my friend, but sadly things seem a tad more complicate. Still, better feed the zombies, make some tea and discuss matters.

  6. Oh, I love that beautiful game-is-so-new-I-got-second-in-the-highscores smell in the morning.

Just got back from voting here on this side of the ocean, and was ready for this kind of fun.

And don't lose the spirit! No mindless violence will make people stop their protestin'.

  7. Gotta love that high-score beating score I suppose :) And I do hope -actually also believe- that you are right. Such set-backs can only be temporary.

  8. That democracy thing works well doesn't it?

Neat little game. Don't quite understand who put all those spikes deep underground though...

  9. Gnome!? The zombies won't eat the salad sandwiches! I even put radish in there, still they turned their noses up at em!........Well those of them that still had noses.

  10. @ Pacian: Unfortunately not particularly well these days my friend. After all the most popular/mass slogan does mention that the junta didn't actually end in 1973... As for the game, hmmm, a completely deranged undertaker?

@ Elderly: How dare they? Haven't those bastards -excuse the language dear, but this is an outrage- heard of third world undead? Haven't they seen the starving vampires of Nigeria? The destitute werewolves of India? An outrage...

  11. (as the lettuce leafs wilt in the salad sandwichs, elderly stands in awe at Gnome's passionate discourse, but no wiser as to how he might feed the now ravenous and increasingly riotous and noisy Zombies)

    :(

  12. Uhm, I believe we could feed them bourgeois politicians. Greece and indeed Ireland have some excellent specimens we should collect and send over.
