Delightful Desktop Dungeons Demo

You do remember my addiction to Desktop Dungeons, don't you dear reader? Of course you do. You're caring like that. Well, I'm afraid, I've slipped again. Not only have I already pre-ordered the forthcoming commercial version of Desktop Dungeons, but I have also spent the better part of the past four hours playing through the brand new, brilliant and truly hefty Desktop Dungeons Demo. At least I haven't started destroying my sanity with the already excellent free version of DD yet; that's something I suppose. As for the demo itself, it excellently showcases many of them new DD features and is of course itself brilliant, but will only be available to play for the next three days. Oh, and this being a web demo, it does require you have the Unity Web Player installed.

  1. Neat! I loved it as a freeware, now there's a chance to love it a little bit more.

I wonder if 10usd is not pushing it, though.

  2. Nah, I gladly paid that and even thought about the 20$ thing...

  3. Last games I have paid 10USD for: Mirror's Edge (PS3, used), Jak & Daxter (PSP, new).

I think that it might be a little too much to ask for rehashed graphics and some more missions.

Don't get me wrong, I will probably buy it to support the devs, I loved the original free version, spent way too much time with it. But ten bucks could buy much bigger games, that's all I'm saying.

  4. Fair enough that, but you'll have to also note that indie devs simply cannot compete their pricing against big publishers. Oh, and Desktop Dungeons is way better than anything Jak & Dexter ever did. Really.

  5. OBJECTION!

I really liked Daxter on PSP. Bought it for something like 10USD, too.

But yes, I know indies are on disadvantage and actively try to vote with my wallet. You know that, right? Still, I'd gladly pay 5USD for this, 10USD is something that I will pay, but will gnash my teeth a little. :)

  6. Of course I know it. As for taste, well, it is taste my friend. Didn't enjoy what little I playd of Mirror's Edge either, though I loved the idea mind.

  7. I have committed far more hours to playing DD than I did with Mirror's Edge, or any non-RPG commercial game not named Civilization. $20 is absolutely nothing for the amount of gameplay it provides (even in the alpha, free form).

  8. I am quite inclined to agree with you dear Charles. DD is indeed a glorious and rather brilliant timesink, though $20 is a bit too much for me. That's why I went for the $10 pre-order.
