Eye^Game^Candy: Agony

Agony, quite possibly the most beautiful Amiga game ever, was released by Psygnosis in 1992 and made sure jaws dropped all over the place. Its fantasy loading screens, animated backgrounds, parallax scrolling, impressive palette and truly breathtaking art have kept its beauty young, fresh and actually quite perky. Oh, and Agony also remains a decent and very enjoyable -though tough- shmup. As for the music... Ah, the glorious music. Better have a look at this video I suppose.

  2. Its does look great.
I am surprised that they were able to do that much on a Amiga game, and its so amazingly stylishly awesome.

  3. Well put dear Jonathon. It still looks absolutely fantastic. Way better than any Beast, mind. And it was released for the plain old A500 no less. Imagine an AGA version...

  4. Looks interesting. Are there enough good Amiga games to make something like Amiga Forever worth while? It's an emulator if you haven't heard of it, but I'd imagine you have.

  5. Actually my friend there are tons of excellent Amiga games, including some of the best games ever released. Think Sensible Soccer, Agony, Wings, Lemmings etc. As for Amiga Forever, it's a great and particularly legal emulator that roughly costs as much as an actual Amiga...

  6. Very pretty. I love shooters and enjoy quite a few of Psygnosis' games and looks like this one is an Amiga-exclusive eh? I'll check it out (on emulator unfortunately). Thanks!

  7. Yes, an Amiga exclusive I'm afraid dear MadPlanet. To its defense though it does run on all Amigas (since the A500). And definitely check it out. It's simply gorgeous.

  8. Agony is probably my favourite shooter, not quite sure why. Maybe the atmosphere, maybe the incredible music, maybe that frickin' perfectly animated owl... But I just can't seem to have enough of it. Too bad it's expensive, I've never seen a copy under 40€.

  9. It feels so nice somebody understands my obsession. Your taste is indeed impeccable my friend. Oh, and I'd say Agony is worth the 40 euros... Expensive, but great.

  12. Psygnosis was one of the publishers that made the Amiga what it was, always pushing graphics to the edge. Sadly, most of their games were hard as hell to play. This one along with Shadow of the Beast had the best music ever on the platform though.

  13. Indeed wise Stavros. Beast especially was a bloody unresponsive bastard, but it did cause quite a few jobs to drop. As for Agony's music, well, suffice to say I had the mp3 of the thing with me in the army.
