A nice little post with some nice little mags in it

Not that you would have noticed otherwise (I'm quite aware my posting isn't as frequent as it should be; sorry about that), but, well, guess I'd let you know I wont be around for the next 6-7 days. Taking a short vacation, you see. In Crete of all places!

Now, to keep you occupied while you're anxiously waiting, I thought I'd point you towards the latest Retromags offerings: Next Generation #20 and PSM #2. Both issues are freely available for download, scanned and preserved to perfection and sport an amazing variety of quality retro reading. Personal favourites include reviews of X-Wing (Mac), Duke Nukem 3D (PC) and Oddworld (PS), mind. And yes, I did notice the extensive coverage of Mario 64 and N64.

Oh, and if you want to find out what I've already loved to bits and will soon be reviewing for this very lair do follow mystery link 1 and mystery link 2.

  3. I look forward to seeing the reviews of those mystery games after your return. I hope you have an excellent time in Crete. By the way, I would love to see more retro PC posts (i.e. DOS games and such).

  4. Thanks a ton Ithmeer. And I really like that idea about old DOS games. I'll try to do at least one before mid-May. Who knows, it might even not be an adventure.

  6. Please tell me that you'll be playing the Wii version - I just tried the DS version and it has no voice-overs (!!) It's a terrible shame, because the voice overs in the original are superb (at least in english they were).

Thanks for letting me know that this finally got released. I think I'll load up my original copy on dosbox and enjoy that :)

  7. I definitely have to check that PSM out! I love 32 bit-era magazines, for some reason. Have all the portuguese editions of the official psx magazine :P

Oh, and enjoy your vacation ;)

  9. Thanks Nreive. Just mailed you btw.

Yes, it's the Wii version I've been enjoying Chris. And despite some minor flaws (that frankly seem almost unavoidable) it's quite fantastic. Even sports an extensive (much bigger than the DS one) new plot, tons of new dialog and some anti-colonial sentiment!

Thanks Nebacha. I quite frankly did. Oh, and glad you enjoyed the mag. Expect quite a few more retro mag references.

    Thanks and LOL JM! :D

  10. Okay, it looks like I'll have to get a Wii again some day. I got rid of mine a year after launch because I was disappointed with the titles -- but now we're looking at some quality games!

  11. Indeed. And after all with the price of the average Wii game (that's 50 yoyos) it's not like you'll get to buy that many. A select few will do. And do not forget the Gamecube offerings. Like Eternal Darkness.

  16. LOVING these Retro mag scans you keep bestowing on us Gnome... Now if only they could in some way magic me the resident evil PS lid sticker that came free with the magazine I'd be a very happy man!
