The promised retro gaming magazine is finally here and, if I may say so myself, it's absolutely brilliant. Happily, it also happens to be available as a free PDF download. Grab it from the aptly named Retroaction site and enjoy.
Glad you liked it though it does say "Duncan Rule" in the starting bit! So that's settled then :) Oh, and thank you very much for the comment dear Caleb. Cheers!
Damn, want to paly Super Mario Kart and Kickoff 2 but download links aren't available :(
Gotta do some hunting this weekend.
Just curious, how long did it take the team to get this first issue out? Seems to be a great deal of work (and play) to get one of these e-mags one, isn't it?
My parents threw out my 386 after I went to college. I just barely managed to save the Ultimate Doom, Quest for Glory, Wing Commander and Ultima collection game CDs.
I will be downloading this very soon! Not sure how I'll find time to read it, though. But fear not! I'll find time somehow. I'll give some feedback as soon as I have.
Excellent work on the mag - I hope you won't be offended by me saying that its presentation is WAY better than I had expected. (Having read a few "retro fans PDFs" over the years.) It really does look top-notch. And the clever "electronic links" within work well. Very much looking forward to issue 2+. Oh, and if you're after content, you know where to find me. :)
Thank you so much my friend. And admittedly Neil did a stellar job with the layout... I really think you should mail him though... He'd be more than thrilled to know those dirty retro gaming mag thoughts of yours!
Um, it looks like the article about GamesMaster just cuts at page 21.
ReplyDeleteOh my, you're right! Just got the enws to the editor. Thanks Chentzilla.
ReplyDeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteExcellent reading!
An article about DosBox!!! That's one of my favorite programs!
It allowed me to play Quest for Glory 4 on my Computer! And allowed me to keep my collection set of the Quest for Glory for future play.
It also allowed me to play some rather *ahem* interesting graphic novel adventure games from the 90s...
In any case I am a bit annoyed that I do not know who wrote that excellent article. There was no name on it.
Glad you liked it though it does say "Duncan Rule" in the starting bit! So that's settled then :) Oh, and thank you very much for the comment dear Caleb. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteOn the download. Will comment after reading :)
ReplyDeleteWill be waiting for your insight my friend...
ReplyDelete"It also allowed me to play some rather *ahem* interesting graphic novel adventure games from the 90s..."
ReplyDeleteWink, wink, nudge, nudge, was it by any chance a Japanese graphic novel adventure?...
As for the magazine, I will have a look over the weekend, am quite busy now.
Take your time mate. Retroaction will be waiting for you, you know.

I hear the games will be uploaded at Retro Remakes soon. So keep an eye on their forum.
ReplyDeleteIt took us around four months (although some ideas were around a lot sooner) to get the first issue done. Isue two should be a bit quicker. Cheers.
And since NReive covered that. let me point you to

ReplyDeleteA crying shame Caleb, a crying shame. At least you didn't sell it off yourself...
Excellent stuff, Gnome. Read through it last night and there's some great stuff there.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting the RR results together now and there'll be individual downloads up as soon as all the judges hand over the goods.
In the meantime, as a thank you - if anyone wants to grab the lot, here's a zip with all the entries in.
