Frankly, I don't have the time (or patience) to get through games like MM2 any more so there are some modern day mechanics that I can't live without - suspend/resume comes to mind. Also, my life is a lot more interrupt driven so that also changes things. <br />W/r/t difficulty, I think you're seeing a bit of a resurgence of challenge. The obvious example is the Souls series, but something like Rogue Legacy which was extremely challenging but also let you grind if you wanted to get to a point where you could beat the game whatever your skill set yet still maintaining challenge, is the best of both worlds.<br /><br />As an interesting aside, the Souls games have actually gotten harder than their predecessors the kings field games.
